I've just been learning about dog and cat fur trade. I had no idea. It's awful, cruel, terrible and so many other words i just can't say. The videos
oh!..... it's not for the faint of heart i'll say. All I can do is encourage awareness and hope to not be a consumer. Apparently in Canada there is no restriction to the fur and it's tough to tell if you've bought something with it - or will buy.... but from now on i'll try to be extra careful. Imagine: the fur around your mittens, your coat hood, some small little fuzzy furry desk ornament - that looks like a cute kitty or puppy! all these things could in fact be made from dog or cat hair/fur. I don't wear traditional fur stuff for many reasons - only one of which is the animal factor but this seems to be so much more and I feel such anger on behalf of these poor animals.ok, ranting over, but please, check it out and be careful and sign
the petition if you haven't already?
The question is; where do you stop? It's not much of a reach to extend this to avoiding all leather products as well. No belts, running shoes or boots with leather pieces, no leather purses or wallets, etc. And to make absolutely sure you were avoiding all animal products, you'd have to stay clear of soap and toothpaste. Apparently there are alternative brands, but they can be hard to find. Here's info I found. http://www.ivu.org/faq/products.html
ReplyDeleteBut I think all of that would be going too far. Humans have domesticated animals for thousands of years: if the first humans hadn't trapped and kept wild cats (and fed them meat, from other animals that had been killed,) you wouldn't be sitting there now with your four. And I'm sure if it got cold, the earliest humans killed something large and used the fur, as well as every other part of the animal.
I agree that I wouldn't wear fur. It seems like a waste. My MEC parka does the job.
eh - there must be limits as you say but, the idea of my furry creatures fur adorning a few pairs of mittens at walmart, and them screaming from the pain of it.... well, it's too close to {this} home for comfort.
ReplyDeletenope, i can't deal with this knowledge - sometimes i think ignorance can be bliss when the alternative is having nightmares....
